Taweelah Asia Power Company (TAPCO) recently awarded Ansaldo Energia a 10-year service agreement to maintain and optimize performance of its New B Extension (TNBE) combined cycle power plant in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, which began full commercial operation in March 2009.
Turnkey service agreement covers three dual fuel 237 MW Siemens SGT5-4000F (V94.3A) gas turbine generators which each exhaust into a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) raising steam to drive a 330 MW Siemens SST5-6000 back-pressure steam turbine generator.
Two of the gas turbine generator installations are also equipped with bypass stacks to operate as simple cycle generating plants for peaking and backup power. In normal combined cycle mode, the TNBE plant generates upward of a net 947 MW of power and 68.4 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of fresh water produced by four multi-stage flash desalination distillers.
Maintenance scope includes all scheduled and unscheduled power generation and related auxiliary equipment maintenance; a parts supply program including upgrades, repair and refurbishment of parts; remote monitoring and diagnostics; a gas turbine rotor exchange program to facilitate timely outage activities.
Ansaldo’s Predictive EXpert (APEX) system uses neural network analytics to provide real time predictive diagnosis and early warning notifications to identify potential failures and gain time to react and plan corrective action.
