PW Power Systems (PWPS) has announced that Puerto Rico’s Electric Power Authority has three dual-fuel aero derivative FT8 MobilePac gensets emplaced and ready for operation at the Palo Seco power plant in Toa Baja.
The MobilePac units will be used for emergency power and for grid security to support Puerto Rico’s environmental sustainability plan, says Puerto Rico Governor, Wanda Vazquez.
Within 8 to 10 minutes, the standby gensets can start up and reach full 30MW unit output to supply emergency power to hospitals and a nearby airport – to otherwise stranded facilities.
Although physically sited at the Palo Seco plant, those same MobilePac units can be readily relocated to provide power for isolated areas that can be supplied with liquid or natural gas fuel.
In effect they contribute energy supply resiliency when extreme weather hits and also provide back-up as Puerto Rico’s Power Authority moves ahead towards integration of its new renewable energy portfolio.
