GE Vernova has announced multiple orders and strategic initiatives of late:
Iraq
Republic of Iraq has contracted with GE Vernova to modernize the country’s power infrastructure and expand capacity at the Al Mansouria gas power plant. Project scope includes 3 GW of combined cycle power plants and the conversion of two sites, Samawa and Nasiriya, from simple to combined cycle. In addition, a five-year services and upgrade agreement will apply to 70 turbines and generators at 18 power plants, with a total capacity of up to 7.5 GW.
Canada
Ontario Power Generation to refurbish hydroelectric stations in the Niagara region, including the Sir Adam Beck Complex at Niagara Falls. GE Vernova to refurbish up to 25 steam units as the first phase of this work beginning in 2025, increasing station capacity by up to 50 MW. Ontario is developing plans for its DeCew I and DeCew II generating stations in the region.
United States
A gas-fired 7HA.03 combined-cycle plant has been ordered by Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company (LG&E and KU) to be built on the existing Mill Creek Generating Station in Louisville, Kentucky. Two aging coal generation units there are to be retired. The new plant will have an output of 645 MW. The turbines will be fueled by natural gas, with the ability to utilize up to 50% hydrogen (by volume) as hydrogen becomes more available. GE Vernova will also provide an STF-D650 steam turbine along with a W86 generator, Vogt Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and its Mark* VIe control system.
South Korea
A GE 7HA.02 gas turbine has been selected to power Korea Western Power’s Gongju-si power plant in Chungcheongnam, South Korea. This is part of a switch from coal to gas. An old coal-fired plant is being replaced with natural gas generation; new plant is expected to reach an output of 500 MW. target to begin operation is 2027.
