Salvatore DellaVilla, CEO of Strategic Power Systems, has been named Managing Director of the Gas Turbine Association (GTA), effective January 1, 2020. Sal will replace William H. Day, who served in the role since the group’s inception in 1995. Mr. Day will serve as director emeritus and strategic consultant for the GTA moving forward.
“I am excited to have Sal – an accomplished industry luminary – lead the association forward and am incredibly grateful for Bill’s leadership and continued partnership.” says the Association Chairman, Guy DeLeonardo, General Manager of GE Gas Power Systems.
“Sal’s demonstrated leadership and expertise in energy markets and the gas turbine industry will well serve GTA’s goals of advancing clean, cost-effective, and reliable gas-based power generation.”
Gas turbines are part of the Clean Energy solution.
Over the past few decades, government policy, utility regulations and industry investment have focused on new gas turbine technologies that improve output and performance while driving down greenhouse gas emissions in measurable and controllable ways.
DellaVilla says that astute engineers and scientists understand the real dilemma facing the gas turbine market, the need and role for gas turbine integration with renewables to combat the impact of global climate change.
The industry has developed solutions that work and been verified. More must be done, he agrees, but the path of progress and commitment has been set. He sees GTA’s mission as ensuring that the value and capabilities of gas turbines are effectively communicated and that the goals of Clean Energy Solutions now available and in place continue to be realized.
Gas turbines are and will continue to be an integral part of the solution, driving down emissions and integrating effectively with renewable energy systems to provide operational flexibility and ancillary services required for grid reliability and load demand.
Long term, however, industry must regard natural gas as a “transition” fuel on the path to a possible hydrogen future in which gas turbines will assume a critical role. Wherever this journey takes us, says DellaVilla, the GTA will do its part.
Membership in the Gas Turbine Association.
This is a membership organization established in 1995 to serve as a unified voice for the Gas Turbine Industry. Today, gas turbine power plants produce more than a quarter of our nation’s electricity and play an increasingly important role in achieving national goals for energy and the environment as part of the energy mix.
