A Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fueled gas turbine, from Ansaldo Energia, will power the 300 MW Tarbert Next Generation Power Station in Ireland. Ansaldo will supply the modified AE94.3A gas turbine.
The simple cycle power station will run on HVO which is a sustainable biofuel produced by processing waste feedstocks to create a fossil-free alternative to diesel under EU sustainability standards.
The new Tarbert Next Generation Power Station (from SSE Thermal) will support the security of electrical power supply. It will provide electricity supply at times of peak demand to support the expansion of Ireland’s renewable generation capacity.
The AE94.3A now has 115 units installed worldwide and over five million of equivalent operating hours.
“This new project award demonstrates the Ansaldo Energia capacity to offer low-CO2 solutions for the power generation market,” said Stefano Gianatti, Executive Vice President New Units of Ansaldo Energia. “Our capabilities on HVO successfully complement those on hydrogen.”
