In a recent webinar, Camfil introduced their latest innovation in filter design with pulse filters that improve upon filter life, reliability, and ease of use.
Pulse filters haven’t changed much since 1985, when filter configuration changed from vertical/upright orientation to a horizontal cross-flow design to satisfy greater airflow requirements of larger gas turbines. Through the use of new materials and innovative design, Camfil’s new TurboPulse handles moisture, fog, sand, dust, snow, and ice far more effectively and for longer times than today’s pulse filters.
Lighter and stronger
A reinforced plastic structure makes the pulse filter 2x as strong as metal frames — able to withstand endurance testing of over 250,000 pulses The injection-molded plastic is corrosion resistant (and incinerable), providing clear benefits in moist and wet environments.
Revolutionary redesign
The challenges of pressure drop, corrosion, improper sealing / bypass of the filter, and reduced pulse performance over time were all considered with this pulse filter redesign.
A patented lattice-like cage distributes airflow for better utilization via aerodynamic vanes that redirect dust at a 90° angle away from the filter. This flow path increases the pulse cleaning effect when compared to today’s conical-cylindrical pulse filters, reducing pressure drop by 45% during 50-hour sandstorm simulation testing. The interior vanes of the TurboPulse have been calibrated to ensure maximum pulse effect and to prevent filter blockages. This leads to effective filter cleaning in the challenging environments that need it most.
Combined with Camfil’s (patented) Hemi-Pleat™ filter media, this increases dust holding capacity and prevents re-entry of dust after pulsing. It enables the new TurboPulse design to maintain the highest dust-holding capacity as measured by ISO standards 29461-1, which translates into longer filter life.
Ease of Assembly/Installation
Camfil has simplified installation of the TurboPulse filter assembly with interlocking parts that ensure perfect centering alignment and exceptional sealing. Comparative side-by-side replacement of filters at two gas turbine plants (dual-unit plants) demonstrated TurboPulse filters can be installed in 25% less time than it takes to change out traditional pulse filters.
The new TurboPulse design is 100% compatible with current conical-cylindrical pulse filter housings, which makes upgrades and retrofits a snap. No modifications to the filter tripods or housing are required in the majority of installations.
Over time, the TurboPulse filter will produce less pressure drop than traditional pulse filters.
TurboPulse’s radical new redesign offers the following key benefits:
- Longer filter life / pulse performance
- Corrosion free
- Bypass free
- Fast and easy installation
- Incinerable
- Predictable filter changes that minimize downtime
