Advanced Design Technology (ADT) has released an update to its TURBOdesign Suite software. This aerodynamic and hydrodynamic 3D design software package allows users to design, analyze and optimize axial, mixed-flow for centrifugal pumps, compressors, fans, turbines, torque converters, and other turbomachinery.
Users can evaluate turbomachinery package size perform 3D blade design with 3D inverse design capabilities, analyze flow information per component, stage performances with turbomachinery specific 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and automate exploration of the design space with automatic optimization capabilities.
New features and enhancements in the 2024.1 release include a manufacturing modification function including flow and radial trimming, heat pump cycle and fast lookup algorithm for Real Gas Properties, extension of CAE integration with Siemens CCM+ and Ansys CFX to new applications, support for twin entry turbine volutes in TURBOdesign Volute, and support for multistage pumps in centrifugal pump mean line code.
High temperature heat pumps are playing a major role in decarbonization of many industrial processes, said Professor Mehrdad Zangeneh, Founder and Managing Director of ADT.
“The new cycle code for heat pump coupled with improvements in real gas algorithms used in TURBOdesign Suite, together with multi-point optimization capability and the direct set up of CFD cases for Ansys CFX and Siemens CCM+ should streamline the process of design optimization of high temperature heat pumps”.
For example, Reactive Response Surface (RRS) enables rapid and accurate multi-objective optimization with few design evaluations. Similarly, CAE Integration means any TURBOdesign1 case can automatically be meshed with the most suitable mesh topology in Ansys CFX or Siemens CCM+ and the results automatically post processed.
And new heat pump cycle code can read basic input requirements for the heat pump, such as condenser and evaporator temperature. and whether or not there is an economizer. By coupling with the centrifugal compressor mainline code, it can solve the compressor stage for any working real gas substance.
